About Stitch and Mimi – Mimi is the power behind the magic. She fell in love with sewing at the tender age of 12 in middle school, waaaaay back in the summer of 1969!l Throughout High school and beyond she found her passion in costuming and set design, helping others with mending and sewing, creating Halloween costumes, home decor and the like. The fun continued with sewing for her daughter and now her grandchildren. As matter of fact, when her grandkids took an interest in theater, she donated her sewing skills to the Patio Playhouse Community and Youth Theater Costuming Department to assist their Costume Designers in the production of “The Phantom Tollbooth”.
Before relocating to the Mohave Valley area in Arizona, Mimi was the on-call tailor for Macy’s in north county San Diego, and kept busy helping local high school students with their Homecoming & Prom alterations, and tailoring for brides, bridesmaids, grooms & groomsmen…. Making that formal gown or suit fit EXACTLY the way you envisioned is her very favorite thing to do!
Mimi would love to see the art of sewing continue with each generation and began offering an introduction to sewing with her Summer Sewing Camps for kids ages 8-11 to help make that happen. If sewing, mending and teaching kids were not enough to keep her busy, Mimi is also a Wedding Chaplain at Vows From The Heart, a local Wedding Officiant company which has married OVER 6,000 couples. Formal Weddings, Elopements and Vow Renewals keeps her very busy and with their Military Mondays outreach (offering FREE elopements and photography to our full time active military) she seldom slows down!
Stitch on the other hand is a fun little character drawn up by Mimi who spent years in commercial and graphics arts, costuming, etc. etc. etc. Although Stitch is unable to do any actual sewing and mending, He is the official boutique mascot and is always a topic of conversation in the sewing room by visiting children and adults alike. Stitch can also be a little prankster and is the source of levity on days that can be a little stressful.
