Mimi Cares

“We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give.” — Winston Churchill
At Stitch & Mimi, giving back is part of the work. Mimi supports local families, students, and service members with practical, hands-on help: sewing skills, garment care, and projects that make people feel seen and supported. Below are a few ways Mimi serves.
Smile Seekers
Mimi joined friends Cathy and Pam to sew dresses for girls and shorts for boys supported by the Smile Seeker House in Nairobi, Kenya. The organization constructed a three-story home to provide shelter, meals, clothing, and schooling for children impacted by the AIDS epidemic. Mimi’s part is simple and personal: comfortable, durable, handmade clothing that lets each child feel cared for. Many of Mimi’s summer camp students have pitched in, learning that a basic stitch can change someone’s day.
Military Mondays: Serving Those Who Serve
Mimi and her husband, Rev. Christopher, created Military Mondays to offer complimentary elopement ceremonies for active duty couples. While living in San Diego, they served more than 600 military elopements, welcoming every branch and rank. Each couple received a no-cost ceremony and photos, with other services provided when available. It was a small way to say thank you to those who give so much.
Why We Give
Philanthropy can be big or small. Sometimes it’s a donation. Sometimes it’s a hem for a job interview, a repaired zipper for a school concert, or a handmade dress that reminds a child she matters. Mimi believes practical skills are a powerful way to serve—quiet, useful, and full of heart.
